Braces

Braces apply constant pressure to slowly correct the alignment of your teeth. As your teeth move into the proper place, we will continue to adjust your tooth alignment until it is perfect.

The length of treatment depends on your progress and the original alignment of your teeth. Treatment lasts between 12 and 24 months in most cases. However, some patients need less while others require up to three years.

You should brush your teeth four times a day. Once after each meal and then again before you go to bed.

Oral hygiene shouldn’t change with or without braces. Brushing, flossing, water floss and visiting the dentist are all important during your treatment. You’ll just need to use a different technique to brush and floss with braces. It’s not difficult, it will just take some practice and getting used to.  

Yes, it will be tight and discomforting for the initial 3-5 days after each braces appointment and subside to normal after.

You need to have all of your permanent, adult teeth to have braces. This is typically around seven years old. Adults can wear braces, too, as there isn’t an upper limit.
Having a strong gum health is mandatory to be suitable for braces.

Your orthodontist will set you up on a schedule for follow up appointments every four to eight weeks. It is important to attend the appointments so the braces can be adjusted properly. Skipping appointments will slow down your progress.

Invisalign

Aligners are plastic trays that surround your teeth in a similar fashion to certain dental retainers. Aligners are durable and designed to move gradually move the teeth into the correct position.

Yes, the aligners can close gaps between your teeth, move crooked teeth into the correct position, and address bite issues. The only thing aligners cannot do is address bite problems that the jawbone causes.

Aligners are removable and can come out on daily basis. In fact, you can take the aligners out during eating or drinking hot drinks.

You need to keep the aligners in for around 22 hours per day. Wearing the aligners less frequently will prolong your overall treatment time.

No. You need to take your aligners out every time that you eat. This is true for all of your meals and even for snacks. This is critical for preserving their structural integrity and for ensuring that your treatment time is not accidentally delayed due to one of them breaking.

You can drink water while wearing the aligners but must remove the aligners to drink all other beverages. If you drink something hot like coffee or tea, you will risk warping the shape of your aligners. Any change to their shape can be detrimental to your treatment plan. The change in shape will cause your teeth to not move in the proper direction.

Each aligner wear range from 8-15 days depends on your treatment plan. Once the aligners begin to feel loose, it is an indication that it is time to wear the next set in the series. Remember that the aligners are putting pressure on your teeth in order to move them into position. If the aligners are too loose, the pressure will no longer be significant enough to do so.
